Becoming a Fiancé

It isn’t everyday that your entire life changes and you begin a new journey, with a whole new title called “fiancé.”

On March 30th 2019, having met four years ago at a work event meeting, this is precisely what occurred for the California couple Zack and Katelynn. As they ventured through The Desert X Gallery, Zack planned a perfect surprise proposal for Katelynn at their last destination; Lover’s Rainbow.

With a few visitors around the Lover’s Rainbow, Zack got down on one knee and proposed to Katelynn, whom seemed quite surprised indeed!

A few happy tears shed, and of course Katelynn said “YES!”

Katelynn currently works for a national men’s charity and Zack is in flight school to become a helicopter pilot.

Congratulations Katelynn and Zack!

When Soul Meets Body; Danielle and Chris Get Married March 11th 2018

There’s a saying that rings true for Danielle and Chris; “A soul mate is not found. A soul mate is recognized.”

.

On March 11th 2018, at Wyndam’s Pierpont Inn Hotel in Ventura, surrounded by their closest friends and family, Danielle and Chris celebrated their love and got married.

Danielle and Chris met January 4th 2015 one day, at a local restaurant in Ventura while Chris was playing music and Danielle overheard him. It didn’t take long for Danielle and Chris to recognize that they were bonded.

Together, these two share so many passions! Music brought them together and remains an important part of their life. Chris grew up playing guitar and continued learning other instruments as well. While Danielle continued pursing her education, and currently received a PhD from Pepperdine University. She recently published a book about music called “Music and Healing.”

Whether it’s music festivals, camping, spontaneous road trip adventures, or even Chris just simply serenading Danielle, these guys are living an incredible journey.

Congratulations Danielle and Chris! Cheers to happily ever after!

Erika & Michael’s Turtle Bay Destination Wedding

I am a destination wedding photographer and many of the weddings I am photographing take place on the beautiful island of Oahu, where every day offers an amazing landscape. But photographing Erika & Michael’s wedding at Turtle Bay Resort, is hands down my favorite wedding of 2016. I absolutely LOVE Hawaiian weddings, and especially when they’re taking place on Oahu’s North Shore! Turtle Bay Resort offers everything a Hawaiian Wedding should. From ocean views, to breath-taking sunsets, not to mention incredibly beautiful rooms and a gorgeous venue overlooking the ocean.

Erika and Mick met in London where Erika worked at the time. Mick was coming in one day to see his friends that worked with Erika, and it was then that these two caught sight of each other. Shortly after their initial meeting, they both asked a friend in common, (unknowingly that the other was doing the same thing), to set them up! Too cute!

Having family and friends from all over, Australia, Europe, America, they decided Hawaii would be the most complementing destination for their wedding day.

Miho & Jason’s Mid-Summer Hawaiian Wedding

What could be more perfect then a mid-summer wedding on a tropical island, at a magical place in the Hawaiian islands called Queen Emma’s Summer Palace? Well everyone knows we absolutely LOVE Hawaii venues! We couldn’t have been more excited when our clients Miho and Jason approached us about photographing their wedding. This beautiful retreat is hidden under an array of palm trees and luscious green shrubbery located in the Nu’uanu Valley . It was home to the great Queen Emma and her husband King Kamehameha IV as well as their son Prince Albert Edward, during their summers between 1857 and 1885 . The Palace is also known as “Hānaiakamalama.”

My clients Jason and Miho met in Hawaii. Jason is currently in the Navy and from California and and Miho is originally from Japan. Miho and Jason flew their families and friends out from Japan and California to be a part of their intimate wedding at the Queen’s Summer Palace in Honolulu Hawaii on July 9th 2016.

Miho and her Bridesmaids kick off the day over at the Aston Beach Front Waikiki Hotel and Resort. Guests enter the Terrace for the intimate secluded Hawaiian wedding.

A Hawaiian water blessing is held, also known as ‘Ola I Ka Wai,’ during the ceremony. Jason and Miho exchange their vows. Shortly after the kiss seals their ceremony. Guests make their way to the Emmalani Hale to enjoy pupus and cocktails. Soon after, dinner is served by the amazing Hawaiian Fresh Farms catering and decor company! As you can see, pork was on the menu and might we add, delicious!

Moving scenes to the dance floor, Miho and Jason enjoy their first dance. The night continues on…Congratulations to Miho & Jason!

Andrea & Kevin Destination Wedding

Andrea and Kevin flew from California to have their exclusive destination wedding in Hawaii at the magical healing pools of Makapu’u beach park. Having met in 2003 and sharing a passion for Hawaii, as well as some of Kevin’s family being local to Big Island, they decided to have their closest friends and family meet up here for their wedding day.

Rachel_Rose_Photography_Hawaii_Oahu_Destination_Wedding_Bride_Groom_Paradise

Their ceremony, performed by the amazing Kahu Pomaika’i with Hawaiian Aloha Blessings, and Ukulele player Keaolani, starts off with an oli or chant, to acknowledge the sacred healing pools and bless the area.

Andrea and Kevin exchange lei’s with their family and friends. And then with each other. The lei’s they’re exchanging though are maile lei’s, which are open ended lei’s, symbolizing two becoming one as well as open to invite their ancestors to join in their circle of love.

Kahu Pomaika`i’s eldest son Po’okela blows the conch shell to summon their ancestors. Following a Ho’oponopono,  is a universal prayer meaning to put things in their proper order, and help cleanse the energetic connections from the past relationships of negativity or disharmony. To perform this, Kahu Pomaika`i uses a Ti leaf and after this prayer a pa`akai, (hawaiian sea salt and herbs), is given to both Kevin and Andrea to seal the blessing.

Bringing the canoe paddle forward for Kevin and Andrea to hold onto together, Kahu Pomaika`i explains the “Lokahi,” or balance between two people. She then intertwines their lei’s together, representing two separate lives becoming one.

Rachel_Rose_Photography_Hawaii_Oahu_Destination_Wedding_Bride_Groom_Rings_Intertwining_Lei

A final blessing is performed for the rings and vow exchanges, before the final, “I do.”

Victoria & Taylor’s Intimate Destination Wedding on Oahu

Victoria and Taylor have been together for two years and actually met on Match.com! They have a one year old daughter named Aubrey. Taylor works as Geophysicist for an oil company and Victoria is a stay-at-home Mom, as well as substitute teacher.

Having not been big fans of over the top large weddings, Taylor and Victoria loved the idea of a small intimate wedding for just the two of them here in Hawaii.

It was really Victoria’s Mom that suggested coming to Hawaii to get married. Victoria had never been, and Taylor had actually visited three times previously. It fit perfectly for what the two of them had envisioned, as it was tropical, beautiful and very romantic. With Taylor being able to take three weeks of vacation time,  their dream to get married in paradise came true.

As the day had just started, Victoria and Taylor said their farewells to Oahu and island hopped over to Maui as newly weds.

Caroline & Michael Destination Paradise Cove Wedding

Caroline and Michael flew all the way from Australia, along with their closest friends and family, to have their destination wedding on the beautiful Hawaiian Island of Oahu, located at Paradise Cove in Ko’Olina.

Caroline, who’s studying interior design, together with her Mother’s help, composed and made her gorgeous wedding dress. Michael, a triathlete and also tri-athlon coach, was actually already in Hawaii awaiting for Caroline and the rest of the group, as he was competing in a triathlon here.

There’s nothing more romantic, than a secluded beach in paradise all to yourselves…

Capturing photos of the rings is one of my favorite things to shoot! Especially while snagging some candid photos of the bridge and groom while they’re having fun with this as well.

These guys had a natural ability to look amazing on the camera. Such a fun couple! Safe travels back to Australia! Aloha 🙂
